Lists of shots

The shots we are tending to use in our trailer are very recognisable such as 'close ups', 'med angles', 'high angles', 'wide shots', 'establishing shot'.

CLOSE UP

  • The close up shot will be used on the phone when Casey is messaging her friend, instead of her face the phone will convey what Casey is feeling after the dream.
  • Another close of Casey's face when she sees her grandma photo in the box she is unpacking, by having this shot it will portray  a suspense story as the audience will wonder who she is and why Casey's expression were  not pleasing. Also, later in the narrative the audience feel to blame the grandma of her misery  in the new house.
MED ANGLES
  • A med shot is used when Casey suddenly wakes up by her dreams, this allows the audience to see some of the surroundings.
  • Another med also over the shoulder shot when Casey communicates with her boyfriend and explains to him of her nightmares. This allows the audience to see a snappy reaction of both their faces when they talk.

ESTABLISHING SHOT
  • This shot is used at the beginning with the binary opposition showing the front doors which are black and white.  having this shot is suggests to the audience it is a happy beginning as the shot as been taken in daylight it represent a sense of stability.
WIDE SHOT
  • This shot is used in one of Casey's dream where she is running away from the 'villain' who she she believes is trying to kill her. it will enhance Barthes' enigma code, which will highlight the aspect of 'who is it'. Chasing scenes are very symbolic in horror films because it always makes audience question the plot. films such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' which is long and gritty. Also in 'Prom Night' where Helen is chased throughout the school setting.

The use of Male gaze

This theory is by Lauran Mulvey who states that in films women are typically the object, rather than the possessors. The gaze is expressed by the use of camera, it says that men are watchers and women are watched despite the fact that women are now being considered as main protagonists , they are still being watched upon more likely in a negative light.
The film Psycho have filmed the famous shot in the bathroom which invades privacy  and also in Carrie.

In our trailer we have included this theory when Casey is in bed having her dreams, as her clothing are quite revealing, this provokes and supports Male Gaze. Also when Casey is fixing herself up in the bathroom.

Script

The use of Final Girl Theory

We as a group decided to use Carol Clover's Final Girl theory in our horror trailer as when researched majority of the films had the main character as being the Final Girl. However, we have subverted from the characteristic that needs to be presented by the 'Final Girl' for example, she is typically virginal and occasionally the final girl has a shared history with the killer. In Halloween Michael Myers is revealed to be the brother of Laurie Strodes and in scream Sidney Prescott's boyfriend Billy Loomis is represented as a killer. For our trailer, we have given her a unisex name of'Casey who is not virginal and does not share a relate with the killer in any sort, by challenging this concept we were able to had a twist to our trailer which is not expected by the audience.

The use of Light and Sounds

Sound effects

This sound effect really appealed to me as it was a really good sound effect for the door closing which left a scary and horrifying effect.

This was another sound effect of the TV having short circuit it very short and catching which creates scary mood.

This is the sound track I found which our group be
using for the majority of our trailer as when researched, the
eerie piano soundtrack was a type of sound
that was used in many Horror trailer.

Cast

ISHLA: Is playing the main role named Casey, I believe we decided that due to her having drama skills and also because she played Casey from scream. This name of Casey was inspired from the film Scream.
Casey is a young bubbly girl who lives with her boyfriend after high school, despite the fact she does get scared quite easily, she loves to discover new things and experiment.

KLAVEL: Is playing the character of Michael  who is Casey's boyfriend currantly moved in with her in a new house away from the dark past. After high school Casey and Michael have become more fond of each other and care for each other more than they think.
He is  strong and dominating character unlike Casey to is naive.

Clothing and mise-en-scene

The clothing we are using are white on black for Casey to show her innocence and pure and fully black for the boyfriend who may also can be known as a villain as he is the only other character on show after Casey.

  • The use of black bed and red sheets represent danger as they are dark colours often used in horror to demonstrate fear and danger.
  • Blood is a iconography, without blood audience do not feel as thought it is a horror because they are familiar with iconography such as blood and gore.
  • The location used is in a house which we will represent as isolated as expected in horrors, a scene in the woods when Casey is being chased with a dream effect.
  • Props we are using are blood, a photo frame, boxes, a phone and a knife. these are some of the props that are very familiar by the audience.
